Guest: Drico of Gilrain

Drico is a sneaky burglar, who doesn't hesitate to stealthily approach and pickpocket anyone. His skills are well known all over the Middle-earth. As he spent a lot time in Staddle as a young lad, the Bree-land guards know him well and sometimes even catch him in the act. Feel free to enjoy his face! :)

Guest: Dakorandir of Eldar

Like most hailing from Gondor, Dakorandir prefers a chainmail armor, with extra metal protection. The colder climate of the north has influenced his choice of helmet and leg armor though. The fur-lined helmet is more suitable compared to plain steel, and a short chainmail battle kilt would be too cold for long nights and travels. Instead, he had an armorsmith add metal reinforcements to a cloth battle-skirt to go on top of the thigh-length chainmail.

Chest: Elven Steel Breastplate of Vigour, black dye (world drop)
Legs: Stone-reader's Trousers, grey dye (Moria lore-master epic set)
Head: Warg Hide Helm, default dye (Quest: Coat of Shadow)
Shoulders: Thick Dwarf-make Steel Shoulder Guards, washed (T3 crafted)
Hands: Gauntlets of the Dwarrowdelf, default dye (Quest: Vol. II, Book 8, Chapter 4: A Relic in Nalâ-dûm)

Wish: Battle-ready dwarven guardian

Dedicated reader and guest submitter (1, 2) of this blog contacted me based on this article wishing for a battle-ready outfit for his dwarven guardian Dwalfor. He mentioned Dwalfor could use some woman touch, so I tried to give him some (metaphorically speaking, of course ;).

He had following requirements:
  • distinctive dwarven look (no elven pieces etc.)
  • battle-ready look, so chainmail/plate stuff over robes and fancy hats
  • pieces can come from all sources except BG, OD and Rift raid drops

Dwalfor also sent me a picture of his character at that moment, wearing Lossoth set dyed blue. As he didn't specify preferred colour in his requirements, I chose blue (navy in particular) as the dominant colour for the new outfit, because I knew he liked it on the previous outfit he's been wearing. I sent him the first design to check if I took the right direction:

He liked the chest piece and gloves, but wasn't sure about the rest. He thought the leggings made Dwalfor look fat, wanted to see more cloaks and asked about any helmet resembling Gimli's helm from the LoTR movies (not round on the top):

This was a very interesting challenge for me, as I always struggled with choosing a good helmet :) But I found something I really liked. This was my second design:

Dwalfor was very happy about this version. He liked the leggings, shoulders, cloak and helm and praised avoiding of Wood-Wanderer's Cloak which I also attempted to use (I sent him pictures of a few different pieces tried out and the composition above as my preferred one). The only thing left were the boots - they didn't match the colour of the rest of the outfit really well. So I changed them and sent the final design to Dwalfor:

As he was very satisfied with the result, we met ingame (we both play on EU-Snowbourn server) and I lent him all pieces except for the reputation cloak, to save some time crafting, and a while after he sent me pictures of him proudly posing in the new outfit.

I am very happy he liked my initial idea and he taught me a lot about dwarven outfitting (and I mean it)!

Please let us both know how do you like Dwalfor's final armour composition in the comments :)

Final result:
Chest: Chainmail Chestpiece of Fleetness, navy dye (world drop)
Legs: Steel Leggings, navy dye (T3 crafted)
Head: Gleaming Dwarf Mask, navy dye (world drop)
Shoulders: Mirrored Dwarf-Make Knight's Shoulder Guards, navy dye (T5 crafted)
Hands: Defender's Gloves, navy dye (T3 crafted)
Feet: Defender's Boots, navy dye (T3 crafted)
Back: Warden's Wrap, navy dye (Annuminas reputation barter)

Guest: Retarius of Gilrain

Retarius is a captain who's been in many battles, but even in the most difficult times, he has to stay noble and stylish. As he leads his army into a war riding a horse which only kindred with the Elves can ride, he truly looks like an inspiration to all his soldiers.

Chest: Breastplate of Orod-na-Thôn, ered luin blue dye (world drop)

Head: Helm of Orod-na-Thôn, default dye (world drop)
Shoulders: Pauldrons of the Bulwark, ered luin blue dye (Ettenmoors warden rank 3 set)

Guest: Dakorandir of Eldar

Growing up as the oldest child of a Gondorian trading house, Dakorandir was raised to become a scribe but, like many young men, did basic military training with the army before joining the business of his family. Through contacts and bribes, he was offered to become the clerk to a Gondorian envoy. As such, he came to travel much in the northern Middle-Earth in his early twenties.

However, his master – the envoy – was a corrupted man who did little to help Gondor but the more to gain personal gains. In time Dakorandir's loyalties towards Gondor also diminished, influenced by his master. Ten years later when the envoy died, Dakorandir did not return to the White City but started a vagabond life making a living both as bodyguard and, at times, a scribe. Eventually he found himself involved in the struggles that Bree-land are facing, and old loyalties and tales of heroic deeds once more begun to remind themselves.

Legs: Leggings of the Northern Star, burgundy dye (Wardens of Annuminas reputation)
Shoulders: Shoulders of the Northlands, burgundy dye (world drop)

Back: Ceremonial Cloak of the Leijona, burgundy dye (T5 crafted)

Guest: Dueq of Snowbourn

Dueq believes the strength of a captain lies in both great skill and charisma. Even in the toughest of battles, he has to appeal to his allies as the strongest element of their group, its linking bond. Elves are famous for their crafting skill, capable of making armours which make warriors almost invulnerable. Dueq put his trust in them, and he did well.

Chest: Elven Soldier's Armour, default dye (T5 crafted)
Legs: Elven Soldier's Leggings, default dye (T5 crafted)
Head: Himhar, default dye (Quest: Vol. I, Book 4, Chapter 8: The Unmarked Trail)

Feet: Elven Soldier's Boots, default dye (T5 crafted)

Inspiration: Strider

"Suddenly Frodo noticed that a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall, was also listening intently to the hobbit-talk. He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits."
J.R.R. Tolkien: The Fellowship Of The Ring - Chapter 9 - At the Sign of The Prancing Pony

For this inspiration, I borrowed Frodo's description of Aragorn, yet only known as Strider, as he first met him in the Prancing Pony. This outfit was truly a challenge, despite my character Maney cooperating very well (he even grew his beard for the matter's sake). Finding a leathery shirt looking well in dark colours and ragged at the same time was an endless struggle. In the end I settled for Crafted Armour, which has terrible texture (looks like low detailed no matter how high graphics quality you set). I thought I could use it as an advantage, as it truly looks like covered in grimy mud (along with Salamander Stomper). I'm very curious for opinions on this post, as I think I got pretty far from the original. If you have any ideas how to make it better, please comment.

Chest: Crafted Armour, black dye (T2 crafted)
Legs: Sturdy Westernesse Leather Leggings, black dye (T5 crafted)
Head: Traveller's Hood, black dye (Store)
Shoulders: Shining Chainmail Shoulder Guards, black dye (world drop)
Hands: Fingerless Gloves, black dye (Winter festival)
Feet: Salamander Stomper, black dye (Quest: Tooth and Scale)

Thank you!!!

As you might have noticed, I finally added new posts today after the serious blogspot/blogger service issues. I hope everything will be working properly from now on and I'll be able to bring you new outfits daily as it was until last Thursday.

In the meantime, I'd like to thank all of you for being such awesome readers! So far I have published 31 outfit compositions, 17 of them being your wonderful guest submissions. Please keep them coming, I and the rest of the readers love them so much!

This blog is celebrating two weeks anniversary with following statistics:

...this is a list of top 10 visiting countries, I was surprised also by pageviews from Iceland or Japan :) Cheers guys!

The first poll has also ended with following result:

I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed for hobbitses not winning the poll, but I understand that their... sturdy posture requires much patience to find a fitting outfit :)

Don't forget to vote in the next poll I'm opening now: What is your favourite dominant colour for an outfit?

Thank you again and stay tuned! :)

Guest inspiration: Gandalf the Grey

Today I present you a guest submission inspired by one of the most significant Lord of the Rings characters, Gandalf. Sahasrahla's outfit is a little more blue instead of grey, which is because it is supposed to represent a student and follower of Gandalf, not a lookalike. He is noble and mysterious at the same time, and his beard only illustrates his wisdom acquired over the years. Enjoy!

Chest: Robe of Viisaus, default dye (Quest: Vol. I, Book 13, Chapter 4: The Hand of Angmar)
Head: Aguti's Hat, indigo dye (Quest: The Local Wildlife is Deadly; also available as the light armour hat from the Angmar and GB sets)
Hands: Stone-reader's Gloves, default dye (Moria lore-master epic set)
Feet: Boots of the Stone-student, default dye (Moria lore-master purple set)
Back: Jubut-Rud, default dye (drop from Grand Stairs)

Wish: Cute hobbit outfit in red

Zinniamae contacted me based on this article wishing for a cute hobbity outfit in red. She also sent me pictures of her, giving some inspiration. She had following requirements:
  • dominant red colour
  • only cosmetic/low level armour pieces used
  • nothing fancy; rather a common hobbit girl outfit - maybe a little rascally :)
I struggled the most with the cosmetic/low-level armour requirement, as I mostly work with higher level crafted/dropped armour. I designed several compositions and sent them to Zinni:

Zinni liked the second design the most, but modified it a little bit as she liked Plumed Hat more than Snow-Dusted Adventurer's one I used, and missed the Algraig cloak. The image you see on top of this post is the final result modelled by Zinniamae in all her cuteness :) Please let us know in comments how do you like the result :)

Final result:
Chest: Thatcher's Shirt and Pants, crimson dye (Store)
Head: Plumed Hat, red dye (Quest: Intro: Medicine of the Elves)
Back: Cloak of the Boar, red dye (Fall festival)

Guest: Mirlian of Laurelin

Mirlian is a well-educated lore-master, but she still enjoys travelling and getting things to know personally more than sitting in Elrond's library. She uses her knowledge to travel to the most afflicted places and helps wherever needed, with advice or her skill. Her attire is mostly practical, but also stylish - she cannot and doesn't want to deny her elven roots :)

Chest: Well-worn Robe, umber dye (Skirmish vendor)
Head: Traveller's Hood, umber dye (LOTRO Store)
Shoulders: Daervunn's Shouders, ranger green dye (Quest: Vol. III, Book 1, Chapter 5: Loose Ends in the North Downs)
Hands: Herengaim, umber dye (Drop from the Watcher)
Feet: Boots of the Elder-Days, ranger green dye (Rift lore-master set)
Back: Map-makers travel pack, olive dye (Skirmish vendor; also available from Store)

Blogspot not working properly

Dear readers,

I want to apologize for missing posts in past few days, as well as missing comments, poll malfunction and other problems you might have noticed on Lotro Fashion blog.

It's been due to Blogger/Blogspot service problems and I decided I won't publish anything new until all the issues are solved (except for this post of course :)). It's expected to get everything back to normal until the end of the weekend.

Anyway, I have 4 posts prepared to be published and more will come, so please stay tuned! :)

Hobbit superstar

This is the kind of hobbit every decent lass would fall in love with. He is well-mannered, romantic, can sing beautifully, knows many interesting stories and what is the most important, prepares wonderful second breakfast! This Michel Delving's superstar is a real womanizer and I've heard even Berylla Goodchild, a jewelcrafter renowned for her beauty all around the Shire, has a weakness for him. Fathers, lock your hobbit daughters, Wasabito is coming!
Chest: Frostbluff Robe of Thanks, sea blue dye (Winter festival)
Head: Chopley's Hat, umber dye (Quest: A Curious Number of Bears)
Shoulders: Rock-Climber's Shoulder Guards, sea blue dye (T6 crafted)
Hands: Extravagant Festival Gloves, black dye (Winter Festival)
Back: Golden Tree Summer Cloak, ered luin blue dye (Summer festival)

Guest: Brrokk of Snowbourn

"I am Brrokk Barrowbane. I come originally from the Lonely Mountain far to the East, but I journeyed to these lands in search of riches. Well, that is nothing unusual for a dwarf as you know, but I had little alternative. As a younger son of a large and by no means rich family, I did not have much hope of easy wealth. And, I admit, I was proud. My family were retainers and servants to the dwarf lords who had returned to the Mountain after the defeat of the drake Smaug, but I did not relish such employment. I therefore gathered my few possessions and jouneyed westward, towards Eriador and the Halls of Thorin I had heard of in the far-off Blue Mountains."

This is just a short introduction to wonderful story of Brrokk Barrowbane, renowned guardian of Snowbourn. My dear kinmate has put a great effort into his role-playing backgroung, creating entire blog for his character!
His blog contains biographical information as well as many well-written stories about the journeys and battles he's experienced, including a lot of screenshots. His last post describes the path to his current look, which he also decided to share with readers of my blog.
For anyone interested in role-playing, I really recommend reading the whole story of Brrokk, which is available here. Enjoy!

Little defender

Who's ever said that hobbit guardians are a joke? Try to tell it to this incredible gal! Not many men, dwarves or elves could compete with her stubborn determination to protect her allies. The enemies might not tremble the first time they see her, but once they feel her shield smashing their parts she can crack at, they quickly change the opinion.

Inspiration: Arwen Undómiel

Arwen Undómiel, daughter of Elrond the Half-elven and future Queen of the Reunited Kingdom ruling side by side with King Elessar, has been one of the most inspiring female characters in the Middle-Earth. Her everlasting beauty (truly one of an Evenstar) and goodness have always raised affection in Aragorn and admiration in all the people (or hobbits) she's ever met.

This outfit, modelled by Sidgrid, is my tribute to her. It's very simple, maybe the simplest on this site so far, but it instantly popped into my mind after I saw this picture from Arwen's unfinished journey to Grey Havens. The Elf-queen's Dress and Harbringer's Cloak are both so intriguing that they don't need any supplemental accessories to advance their beauty.

Chest: Elf-queen's Dress, burgundy dye (Store)
Back: Harbringer's Cloak, violet dye (Mirkwood pre-order bonus)

Guest: Mordric of Snowbourn

Mordric is a rune-keeper. And a dwarf. That should already be pretty self-explanatory - he uses his magical powers to accumulate gold and makes us, the pity hobbits-or-humans-or-whatever, envy his wealth whenever his shabby belly catches our sight. Thanks the Valar he sometimes pays a round in the Thorin's Hall Inn and invites poorer fellas for a good Bombur's Beard Lager!
Chest: Long-Sleeved Lorien Tunic and Pants, purple dye (friend reputation with the Galadhrim)
Head: Baingarab, purple dye (Quest: Vol. I, Book 2, Chapter 5: Retake Weathertop; also available as Linen Hat, T2 crafted)
Back: Cloak of the Shining Star, purple dye (Anniversary event reward)

Gondorian warrior

Maney has been born and raised in Minas Tirith as one of many children once to become soldiers of proud Gondorian army. His father was a member of Steward Ecthelion's guard until his death. Years after Steward Denethor took over the reign, Maney's family has retreated to far Bree Land in order to raise their children in peace.
Now, in these dark times, Maney decided to join Free Peoples' forces against the Dark Lord and fight for Gondor, despite his disagreement with Denethor's rule. Men must unite if they are to beat the most feared enemy, once and for all!
Chest: Westernesse Steel Breastplate of Vigour, ered luin blue dye (world drop)

Guest: Cronin of Snowbourn

Cronin's favourite pasttimes are eating food, causing mischief and flirting with hobbit girls. He is very dedicated in all these specializations, and irresistible! One simply cannot deny him any snack, opportunity for robbery or secret hobbit blush when he plays at his dice :) Enjoy some of his charm!

Fiery huntress

Sidgrid believes in the val en' naur, power of fire. Her arrows always carry seed of flame and cause the most profound wounds to the enemies of the Free People. She draws courage from meditations in Hall of Fire where she asks Aulë for advice and guidance. Her spirit has never been broken and never will be, for she is the daughter of fire, predestined to once face the Dark Lord himself!
Chest: Elven Warrior's Armour, crimson dye (T5 crafted)
Legs: Leggings of Orod-na-Thôn, crimson dye (world drop)
Shoulders: Rock-Climber's Shoulder Guards, crimson dye (T6 crafted)
Hands: Scout's Gloves, crimson dye (T6 crafted)
Feet: Golden Host Boots of the Gloaming, crimson dye (T6 crafted)
Back: Cloak of the Raven, crimson dye (Fall festival)

Guest: Gwyenleath of Gilrain

Lore-masters usually stand back in battles, carefully controlling the situation on the battlefield. Gwyenleath, on the opposite, is always ready to step in the midst of the fiercest fights, knowing his dragon scale armour and his wits will always protect him. This is indeed the most unique and dangerously looking lore-master's outfit I've ever seen!

Head: Helm of Lainedhel's Watch, white dye (rank 9 medium armour warden head from Glan Vraig)

Guest: Bundas of Snowbourn

Today I proudly present you the founder of Hobbit Hare Squad, notable warden Bundas. The HHS hunting duo has beaten many naughty men, slayed many evil beasts and laughed hard at many sights. It's been always an honour to fight alongside this fella!

Inspiration: Huntress from loading screen

Have you ever noticed the lovely huntress on Lotro loading screen? While you are waiting for your connection to be established, the tenderly dressed elf maiden is moving from peaceful glades of Rivendell valley towards Mordor, keeping a wary eye on the rest of the fellowship.

I don't have an elven huntress myself, but I wanted to pay tribute to the artist who created the loading screen picture by imitating this outfit. Hence I sent my rune-keeper Sidgrid to hairdresser and asked her to model for the lovely lady's outfit. She gladly accepted, so I can now present my depiction of this very feminine attire.

Chest: Elven Warrior's Armour, navy dye (T5 crafted)
Legs: Fine Dwarf-Make Leather Leggings, purple dye (T2 crafted)
Shoulders: Rock-Climber's Shoulder Guards, purple dye (T6 crafted)
Hands: Scout's Gloves, purple dye (T6 crafted)
Feet: Elven Leather Boots of Fleetness, purple dye (world drop)
Back: Fine Quiver, purple dye (T2 crafted)

P.S.: Finding the skirt has been the biggest pain. I also considered Steel Legs, but they have weird  undyable red patch on the front of the skirt, so it looked very inconveniently. If you know skirt similar to the one I used, but without the strip on the back side, please let me know.

Guest: Silaneth of Snowbourn

Well, this happens when bear pet is naughty, girl gets new cloak :D
Chest: Stone-reader's Robe, default dye (Moria lore-master epic set)
Shoulders: Shoulders of Stone-student, violet dye (Moria lore-master purple set)
Hands: Stone-reader's Gloves, default dye (Moria lore-master epic set)
Feet: Stone-reader's Shoes, default dye (Moria lore-master epic set)
Back: Warm Bear-fur Cloak, default dye (Quest: Winter Cleaning)

Guest: Lookdyss of Snowbourn

Coming from Iron Hills, one of the closest lieutenants of Dain Ironfoot, Lookdyss has played an important role by waking up the dragon Smaug and tanking him while Bard the Bowman finished him, he became very famous and respected amongs Dwarfs and was the official leader of The Dwarves from Iron Hills at the Battle of the Five armies, while fighting side by side with men of Dale and elves.
Since that moment he became one of the legends of Middle-Earth and retired himself few years in Moria to fix the trouble his Moria's brothers have made. Since that time, he has been building up an army of brave warriors and has created the Order of Justice, gathering others peeps like him from different races which still respect such virtues like honour, bravery, justice, and he is also waiting for the moment to strike Sauron's puppet and Sauron himself.

One day will come when the dwarf age will come and rule Middle-Earth, and I'll be there that day!

Guest: Bundas of Snowbourn

Who knows what Bundas, renowned warden of Snowbourn, has begged from the lukewarm cow. Shelter? Information? Mercy? Or even piece of her back limb for his luncheon? I'm not sure what this little hobbit lad is capable of. But I'm absolutely sure of one thing - this is the cutest outfit we've had on this blog! :)
Chest: Spear-shaker's Jacket, default dye (lvl 65 Helegrod warden epic set)

Power of Elements

Sidgrid is a rune-keeper padawan - she has just begun discovering the power of elements she can use. Her words and runes engage powers of fire, lightning and frost to defeat bothering scum, and  she turns to healing power of nature when her friends are in danger. She decided to pay tribute to all these elements with her attire, which is fiery red, touched by golden lightning, covered with sparkling white ice and soothing forest green notes.
Chest: Everstout, red dye (rare world drop, thank you Hymne for lending this!)

Guest: Grulko of Snowbourn

Grulko is always on the move. Well, he has to be, as there are many citizens of Middle-Earth he robbed... oh, pardon me - borrowed something from them :) It is hard to keep up with him when it comes to speed and disguise, and if he wants to enjoy his peaceful elevensies, he simply changes his clothes, puts the mask into his back pocket and noone can tell him from noble Shire citizens. Life of a criminal can be fun!

Guest: Silanish of Snowbourn

Even though it might look so, Silanish is not a hunter. This champion of Snowbourn believes his strength lies in quick moves as he strikes enemies, who think they surround him - but in fact, he surrounds them! His agile moves are deadly and he doesn't need fiercely looking heavy armour to prove that.
Chest: Sturdy Westernesse Armour, default dye (T4 crafted)

Guest: Lokindir of Snowbourn

Many years after his departure from Rivendell has Lokindir travelled throughout the woods of Middle-Earth, often seeking solitude amongs the trees. He preferred contemplation over fame, thus did he not wear any fancy clothes. After fighting his way through Mirkwood and finally reaching friends in Ost Galad, he was suggested to dress accordingly to his deeds. He decided to pay tribute to nature which has long been his favourite companion on his travels. Mae govannen!

Raging Knight

Khamrad, Champion of the Blue Mountains, has been predestined to be a knight since he was born. Until today he struggled looking for a proper radiant plated armour to protect him in battles. Just a short glance on elven steel shining at him from elven store in Rivendell made his heart rejoice. Now, as a true champion by heart, he can free his raging spirit smashing his enemies even more!

Her Eminence Lore-Mistress

Ladriell served as a model for my first submission based on readers' wish. Fellow lore-master Loki commented on her first outfit asking for a more noble outfit for a lore-master. Ladriell is only level 15, so I can't access endgame lore-master robes, which mostly look very classy. Therefore I couldn't resist using recently popular Silken Robe of Golden Splendor - almost everyone wears one, but I've never seen it crimson dyed. This outfit reminds me of medieval cardinals very much, so it might be more suitable for bishop classes in other games. I'd be very grateful for your opinions in comments.
Chest: Silken Robe of Golden Splendor, crimson dye (Anniversary Event 2011)
Head: Turquoise Summer Circlet, default dye (Summer Festival)
Shoulders: Shoulders of the Sun-Lands, sea blue dye (world drop)
Feet: Boots of the Sun-Lands, sea blue dye (world drop)
Back: Cloak of the Shining Star, crimson dye (Anniversary Event 2011)

A Light in the Dark

Are you in danger? Are you in desperate need of morale, music and/or beer? Minstrel Brewbelly, A Light in the Dark, at your service!

Back: Scholar's Cloak, purple dye (T4 crafted)

Guest: Aprila of Snowbourn

Despite the typical secretive nature of burglars, Aprila decided to share her fashionable outfit with wider public on my blog. She surely makes a fearless impression, I wouldn't like to feel the noble blade cutting through my poor hobbit throat. If you wish to dress your burglar classy, she can be your inspiration!

Legs: Shadow-Stalker leggings, crimson dye (Helegrod set)
Head: Traveller's hood, crimson dye (Store)

Feet: Boots of the Shadow-Walker, black dye (Mirkwood BG set)
Back: Plain cloak, crimson dye (outfitter shop)

Guest: Dueq of Snowbourn

Our first guest outfit submission comes from Captain of Snowbourn, Dueq. His armour is pretty easy to obtain, but very manly and indeed worth of a captain. Well done, Dueq!

Evil burglar

Grulka has always been one foot in jail, no wonder she carries the title Villain. She is indeed a burglar by heart - never resists to 'borrow' something she likes. Who knows how did she get her Lossoth robe and Galadhrim cloak? ;)
