"Nine nights and nine days his breath lasted under water, nine nights and nine days would he be without sleep. A wound from Kay's sword no physician might heal. When it pleased him, he would be as tall as the tallest tree in the forest. When the rain was heaviest, whatever he held in his hand would be dry for a handbreadth before and behind, because of the greatness of his heat, and, when his companions were coldest, he would be as fuel for them to light a fire."
When I first saw the Steed of the Champion, I immediately fell in love with it. The striking sharp lines of its saddlery, unconventional combination of bright red, grey and brown - it all appealed to me very much. Even though my champion is level 11, I had to buy it at least for outfitting purposes (and who knows, maybe one day I'll give Maney a go too :). I've created a matching outfit for it based on knight theme. When I decided the outfit's finished, it was raining all over the Middle-earth, which is not very good for taking screenshots - but I decided I will use it to add dramatic atmosphere to the pictures.
It was fun to combine all the pieces - those of you who have been following my outfitting know that I love impossible combinations. I wanted to cover all unique aspects of the horse in the outfit - sharp lines, red, metallic grey, umber without making it look disturbing. I'm not sure how well did I manage it - I'll be more than grateful for your comments and ideas, so that I could improve the outfit further.

If you want to ride Steed of the Champion yourself, don't forget that you have only until May 3rd (this Thursday) to buy it. Good deal I used myself to get two nice horses in one was buying Mithril Edition on sale, about which Hymne also informed on her blog. For $15 you can get 2000 Turbine points (just enough to buy Steed of the Champion) and a unique Mithril Edition Steed of the Horse-Lords (this one is given to all of your characters).
Please
let me know your opinion on the outfit in comments :)

This is wonderfully majestic outfit! The screenshots I've seen so far of that horse really don't do it justice, I'm noticing; yours show it in much more glory. The outfit itself is striking, I particularly like the shoulderpiece you chose. Awesome choice for a comeback outfit, so to speak!
ReplyDeleteVery knightly! I think the chest and legs combine really well, but I'm not too sure about the cloak. The light blue and gold decorations seem a bit out of place compared to the rest of the outfit and the steed. I agree with Kem that you've showcased the steed in all its glory! It looks much better than in any pictures I've seen of it. Even though my own champion is level capped I decided to pass on this one, saving up my points for hopefully a loremaster, minstrel or burglar steed soon. But I can see why you couldn't resist, you made it look beautiful!
ReplyDeletethanks so much guys, nice to read you like the outfit :)
ReplyDeleteHymne, about the cloak - you actually said almost the same thing as Loki when i showed him the outfit :)) the reason i chose it was because i wanted to avoid the cape cloaks (originally i chose Cloak of the Unwelcome Guest dyed white, but even with cape rolled down, it didn't match with the other pieces). then i stumbled upon Defender's Cloak after a long time and thought it would match the details on the gloves and small squares on horse's harness.
can you think of other sort of "plain" cloak which would fit the concept? i noticed that also clipping with the shoulder pad is quite an issue for many cloaks :(
I'm echoing Hymne about how nice the chest and legs look together. I love how the steel-coloured stripes on the brestplate lead the eye down to the belt buckle, which matches perfectly! I never would have though to try those two pieces together, looks great!
ReplyDeleteI can see how it is quite a challenge to style and outfit to match the champ steed -- there's so much going on with the horse, with both silver and gold trim on the horse's tack, the brown and crimson, and the horse's bluish-grey fur. The brown on the cloak is a perfect match with the brown on the horse's tack, but if only the bluish-grey part was a little less blue and more grey!
you're reading my thoughts - i'd like to have a built-in texture editor in LoTRO, it would be enough just to be able to change RGB on various parts of the textures for clothing :D a little less blue >>> profit :))
DeleteVery Arthurian! It's clearly what that helmet is for! Good use of grey dye on it to make an all-metal look. I actually like the cloak too, from a realism point of view. I think most of the LOTRO cloaks have too-bold designs which look good from a distance but would be disappointing close up. This cloak is cunningly worked with gold thread, no doubt by the queen and her ladies themselves before the start of the tournament. :-)
ReplyDeletethank you! :)
DeleteIs this man from the Crickhollow server? If so then I might know him! But wow! This outfit is REALLY nice! I love the red making him look very much like a Knight. It also looks like the request I made 3 months ago to look like some guy I saw in a movie, except the cape was red and the outfit was silver. Close enough :D
ReplyDeletethis handsome knight is my level 11 champion on Snowbourn :D only posts which are entitled "Guest: " are someone else's outfits. however, we might have a very similar taste with your acquaintance from Crickhollow :)
Deletethanks much for compliments. I checked the screenies from you again and I think this outfit is quite far in terms of precision, although the "knightly feel" might be there. I'll get back to your request as soon as I have a bit more time, I think I can get closer :)
Hey how can a warden get a similar outfit? (the chestpiece is heavy armour...)
