Guest: Keeper of the Forgotten Fortress by Thoargile

Rate:

Somewhere in the cold Misty Mountains, to the north of Rivendell, stands an ancient fortress. It has been standing there for many human lifetimes, covered by ice and snow. Some say that elves built it in the time of constant wars with goblins, but after that it has been left and forgotten. The only inhabitants here are two dwarfs and an elf-scout. From fortress' tall walls he oversees surrounding icy fields, looking for any sign of Enemy's presence. And if he'll find one... he'll send a message to Rivendell with a dove, and will carry out his duty - to the end. Because he is the Keeper of the Forgotten Fortress.

Thoargile has already created two amazing lore-inspired outfits, and now I proudly present you third one. It's my fault it hasn't been published earlier, because it took me a very long time to sort out my e-mails after the big blogging break and I'm just slowly discovering precious guest submissions in my mailbox. Enjoy it, as I have! :)

Please let us know what do you think about the outfit in comments, or simly rate below the post's title :)

Chest: Golden Host Coat, white dye (T6 crafted)
Legs: Leggings of the Brazen Call, white dye (Moria level 60 captain teal set; also available as champion and guardian set parts with very small differences in looks)
Shoulders: Vibrant Assault Pauldrons of Théodred, white dye (T7 crafted)
Hands: Tawarwaith Gloves of Power, white dye (T6 crafted)
Feet: August Vibrant Boots of the Golden Wood, white dye (T6 crafted)
Back: Cloak of the Dreamflower, white dye (Quest: Vol. II, Book 7, Chapter 9: The Worries of Lord Celeborn)

Noro lim!

Rate:
Just as Glorfindel rode his horse Asfaloth in search of Frodo Baggins, Manequithir saddled his horse-friend in search for his fellowship. He'd found out they left for Sarnúr to hunt, leaving him behind healing from his wounds in Duillond. He was enraged as much as an elf can be, and left to pursue them. He knew they would be facing great dangers they don't even dream of there, because Sarnúr is no training grounds - it's a stronghold filled with Dourhands and their evil allies, capable of the most cruel deeds.

On the way, he saved a few dwarven lives from voracious wolves. The luck was by his side, because the group of dwarves, as they were leaving Blue Mountains to the elven lands, met his friends! Manequithir's friends haven't yet entered Sarnúr per their information, nor have been close to doing it very soon.

"There is still a chance I could catch them before going inside," Manequithir thought. Immediately he called back his horse, mounted it and cried: "Noro lim, noro lim!" His horse-friend didn't need more and set off for a great run, managing to catch the group leaving Noglond. What a relief!

I mentioned I'd purchased the Mithril Edition on sale earlier this week. Since then, I knew I gotta do an outfit around the beautiful Steed of the Horse-lords (some of you might have noticed my passion for red outfits). The only part I was struggling with was the boots choice, until I noticed the leggings have very pretty metallic parts down the trousers.

I didn't notice that before, as I use boots in 99% of outfits and those cover lower part of the leggings. I loved this detail, because together with shoes, the bottom of trousers looks like matching boots. I'm quite happy about this outfit and I'm seriously thinking of copying it on Frey, my little hunter main :)

Please let me know what do you think about the outfit in comments, or simly rate below the post's title :)

Guest: In the Presence of Saruman by Kemendin

Rate:

The words of Galadriel before her Mirror surface in your memory.

'The prize of knowledge, it waits, ripe for the taking.'
'A library at the pinnacle of the black spire, secrets untold.'
'Enemies without...and within....'
'How far will your heart take you for limitless knowledge, Lore-master?'
Instance: In the Presence of Saruman

Kemendin shared the story of this outfit creation: "This outfit was born out of a two-fold inspiration. The initial glimmerings came to me when Kemendin first entered the instance "In the Presence of Saruman" while being held captive in Isengard. Wandering around, I was struck by the elegance and majestic colour scheme of the tower, and I felt distinctly out of place in the outfit I was currently wearing. So I resolved to find a new outfit more fitting to the surroundings, to show Saruman that Kemendin is not a Lore-master to be taken lightly. And then, with the arrival of Update 5 and new armour to drool over, also came the Prized Isengard steed. Robe met horse, and with a loud bang and flash of light... okay, not quite. But you get the idea."

This is was also one of Kemendin's entries for LOTRO Fashion Week screenshot contest. I had his outfit scheduled a long time before that, but after he posted the mounted screenshot on forums, I immediately fell in love with it! Prized Isengard War-horse is very rarely seen and even more rarely with such amazingly matching outfit.

What do you think? Let us know in the comments! :)

Mount: Prized Isengard War-horse

The Messenger

Rate:
Being renowned veteran of the War of Wrath against Morgoth, who has seen many battles since he was young at the end of the First Age, Manequithir was considering setting off for his journey to the Grey Havens. He was tired of battling over the centuries and lacked purpose in his life. After one of the battles, he realized it's information what wins the wars, and decided to become a messenger. Riding through Eriador and Rhovannion, he assures that the Free People know about dark forces' movement and cannot be caught unprepared.

Manequithir doesn't need a disguise - his horse, descending from the Mearas, is faster than any evil they've ever met. So the Messenger wears bright gold armour, so that all who see him feel hope when they spot him on the horizon. Just like blossoms of the sakura, he is the sign that not all is lost yet.

Do you like the outfit? Please let me know in the comments! :)

Rate:

Kinn-lai were one of six Avari elves tribes. They settled in southern deserts of Harad. Pârangol, a Kinn-lai who came venturing to Eriador, knows how to value protective yet still light armour. He doesn't wear his attire to wars, because it's too light for that, but it serves greatly in battles and for casual wearing.

Guest inspiration: Haldir by Thoargile

Rate:

"The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater."
Haldir, in The Two Towers

Haldir's role has been much bigger in the LoTR movie trilogy compared to the books, especially in The Two Towers. His deeds in the Battle of Helm's Deep have inspired Thoargile to create an outfit using Haldir's movie appearance and action figures as models:

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

I was very happy to receive this guest submission, because about a week ago, I was working on the same theme for Eragith, a reader who asked for Haldir themed outfit for his elven hunter. This is outfit I designed for him:

Unfortunately, the "Haldir leggings" (as I dare to call them) are part of Moria heavy classes' set and only champs, captains and guardians can barter for them (as they come from the class trainer). Unfortunately, Eragith doesn't have any of these, so we substituted these leggings with Sellsword's ones and he claimed he will level up a champion just for the sake of getting the "Haldir leggings" :)) [This is no longer true, see important note below.] About a week later, I received Thoargile's amazing submission and now I am so glad Haldir can come to life on this blog!

Thoargile's outfit is even more suitable for an elven hunter than mine, because it features more significant elven elements. My version includes more plate and is much heavier, therefore it's questionable if it allows enough agility so important for a bowmaster.

Important note: Thanks to Thoargile I've found out that the leggings are barterable not only from class trainers in The Twenty-first Hall (who are class restricted), but also in Shadowed Refuge from Heavy armour trader. You can get these "Haldir leggings" for only 3 Medallions of Moria, no matter what class you are!

Thoargile's Haldir outfit consists of:
Chest: Golden Host Coat of Knowledge, crimson dye (T6 crafted)
Legs: Leggings of the Brazen Call, red dye (Moria level 60 captain teal set; also available as champion and guardian set parts with very small differences in looks)
Head: Ceremonial Town-Saver's Helm, crimson dye (Skirmish barter - Rift cosmetics)
Shoulders 1: Aermal, crimson dye (Drop from Barad Gúlaran; also available Elven Steel Shoulder Guards from Rivendell heavy armoursmith)
Shoulders 2: Nestadbellas, default dye (Quest: Volume III, Book 4, Chapter 10: Herdsmen of the Starkmoor)
Hands: Gauntlets of the Swift Arrow, crimson dye (Mirkwood level 65 hunter purple set; also available as T6 crafted August Gloves of the Golden Wood)
Feet: (August) Boots of the Golden Wood, crimson dye (T6 crafted)
Back: Sturdy Elven Quiver, crimson dye (T2 crafted)

Guest inspiration: Doom of Arvedui by Thoargile

Rate:

Arvedui was the last King of Arthedain and father of the first Chieftain of the Dúnedain. His fate is a sad one. Soon after Arvedui's rise to throne, Angmar attacked, driving the Dúnedain away. Gondor sent help in the form of a great fleet, but it came too late: Arthedain was destroyed, and Arvedui fled to the Ice-bay of Forochel. Círdan, the great elven mariner of Lindon sent a ship north to rescue him, and, against the advice of the Snow-men of Forochel, Arvedui boarded it and was drowned. Along with him, all the elves on board perished in the freezing sea. Except for one...

Author of this outfit told us his story: "Thoargile survived what others could not - the frozen fields of the Forochel and deadly cold of the harsh winter. He was lucky to kill a bear and sewed some warm clothes – in other case he would have perished too. On other screen he stands near the wreckage of the ship, looking at the horizon and hoping to see another ship, coming for him. The Eldar of Forochel. He’ll be alright, I hope :)"

I adore this submission. Recently, I've been getting a lot of very beautiful lore-inspired submissions and I am speechless in front of so many great outfit ideas. Thoargile developed story from LoTR lore into his own and took amazing screenshots to illustrate atmosphere of an elf struck by loss of his fellows, but having hope for better tomorrow. His outfit is stunning and I (not so) secretly hope he will submit more soon! :)

Guest: Protector of Knowledge by Kemendin of Nimrodel

Rate:

Some say that the lore-master Kemendin has wandered Middle-earth since the dawning of the Second Age. Scarce are the lands through which he has not traveled, forever seeking to delve further into the deepest mysteries of lore. His is the path of knowledge, a road which is often dark and broken, eroded by time and desecrated by the Enemy in his search for power. It is Kemendin's self-appointed task to bear light into this darkness, to kindle the flame of knowledge and to shield it from the Shadow, so that the understanding of ages may be once again uncovered and preserved. Beware, then, you servants of darkness, for great is the Lore-master's wrath when the storehouses of ancient learning are threatened.

Kemendin has already shared one great lore-fitting outfit, and this is the one he wears on his main character. He said about the composition: "I think this has been a work in progress ever since Turbine gave us crimson dye, haha - my "crimson" outfit just kept evolving, and I was never quite satisfied. I think it's finally clicked though."

On duty

Rate:

It was a bleak winter day, when not even snowflakes were going to please the Free People - it was raining. Almost everyone stayed in warmth of their homes, except for one. Manequithir stood guard in Celondim, usually a vivid harbour for ships departing to Mithlond. Today even the ships stayed docked, and Manequithir had plenty of time to contemplate all the uneasy thoughts troubling his mind. There is a lot going to happen and the outcome is uncertain. But then, a single drop of rain fell on his sword and made him shine like pure chunk of mithril with all colours of the rainbow, and Manequithir realized there was still light where we would least expect it.

I've created this outfit and took the screenshots before Update 5. I've been having a very busy week at work before Christmas, plus I'm preparing to launch a new project which you will hear about soon :) So I decided to pull this outfit out to avoid much time spent ingame I can't afford. Currently, the skin of the chest piece is broken - it looks like other armour. However, it was bugged many times and we all hope it will be fixed soon. This skin is shared by armour piece under different names also (all level 66+ quest rewards) - I'm not sure which ones are broken and which ones not. You can look them all up in Devonna's guide to RoI quest rewards.

This is a submission I actually asked for when I saw Vindrayeth hanging out in Shire one day. Magical place like Peaceful Glade just underlines the atmosphere, as well as matching goat :)

Guest: Reylon of Evernight

Rate:

Whether it's fighting dragons or posing in Rivendell for all the elves to see, Rey can't ever complain that his life is boring. Green and brown ranger clothes were never enough for this elven hunter. Instead he loved bright reds. He would prance around mobs and aggro five to ten mobs at a time, often having to resort to using Desperate flight to get away. Attention seeker to the max, his Camouflage skill is never used and he bursts into fights often with the first shot and overpowered with burn hot. Guess it suits his red flashy armor.

Head: Lesser Arrow of the West Helmet, crimson dye (Hunter Ost Dunhoth epic set)

All that jazz

Rate:

Come on, Babe
Why don't we paint the town?
And all that jazz

I'm gonna rouge my knees
And roll my stockings down
And all that jazz.

Start the car, I know a whoopee spot
Where the gin is cold but the piano's hot
It's just a noisy hall where there's a nightly brawl
And all that jazz!

All That Jazz, Chicago musical

Imagine Chicago in the 1920s, smoke-filled bar with jazz band playing on stage, gentlemen dancing with their ladies and bunch of gangsters sorting out their business in the corner. This is what came to my mind when I first saw this hat ingame. I was using it on my hobbit minstrel, but I thought it will be easier to create outfit underlining the atmosphere on a man or elf. Did I succeed? Let me know in comments :)

Chest: Hill-man's Cracked Leather Jacket, black dye (Dunland quest)

Wish-based inspiration: Legolas

Rate:

This inspiration was suggested by Maeglaz more than two months ago. I knew this was going to be hard - the archetype of LOTRO hunters is a big challenge. Since then, I've tried to approach Legolas' movie appearance countless times and it always looked horrible. I'm not a big fan of ranger green dye, and there wasn't a hauberk nor gloves any similar to my model. As you probably noticed, I'm questing a lot in RoI zones and when I bumped into these wonderful bracers, I knew this time I might finally do a Legolas outfit I could even publish :)

Tall elven shadow quickly shimmered between the trees. Legolas has returned to his fellowship from scouting the surrounding deep forest. Nothing could escape his wary hearing and judicious, yet piercing sight. Sindarin elf and the Prince of Mirkwood never let his friends down, and never will, even if they are foolish enough to step into the darkest places.

The hauberk is not a very close match, but I felt it's better to have a little extra ring mail and belt, than to struggle with old hauberks' fit on male elves. I was also considering Shirriff's Hauberk dyed ranger green, but it makes an elf too slim and has pattern which Legolas' movie hauberk didn't have as well.

Please let me know what do you think of the outfit in the comments!

Chest: Scout's Weathered Leather Jacket, ranger green dye (Dunland quest)

Guest: Maeglaz of Eldar

Rate:

We have already seen one Maeglaz' outfit. He wore his attire for many days and liked it, but every hunter should blend into his environment. When he entered Mirkwood, Maeglaz realized there aren't many green trees like in Rivendell, nor golden streams, and he will need a different outfit to protect him in battles. Hence he formed this outfit, sewed for the best of footmen and heralds.

Chest: High Herald’s Armour, sienna dye (T6 crafted; shares appearance with Footman's, Scout's and Merchwarden's piece)
Legs: High Footman’s Leggings, sienna dye (T6 crafted)

Elven presence is known to shine up every place, even the darkest one. This is especially true for Manequithir, several thousand years old champion. Practice makes perfect. That proved true countless times, but what about practice in serene woods of Lothlórien? Wouldn't a man get distracted by all the beauty around him, birds singing and leaves whispering? A man maybe would, but not an elf. For Parisus, this is the best environment to train and meditate in the peaceful glades, which goes hand in hand.

A bright, shimmering light has risen from the mound of Othrongroth. The hobbits, who were taking care of poor Lalia on the surface, stopped breathing for a moment. Even the little girl, still mourning her imaginary prince who's betrayed her, forgot about the Wight Prince and stared at the source of the light. It was him, courageous warden Haldhuin, who has just come out of the Great Barrow. "He did it!" hobbits screamed, "He slayed the feared Sambrog!" The celebration of victory has taken place afterwards and the hobbits never forgot the brave warrior who saved them and got Barrow-downs rid of its biggest menace.

A hunter? Or a lore-master? Mistrz is a bit of both. He uses wisdom to cast magic spells with devastating potential no hunter would be ashamed of. This also means he often makes his enemies mad, so he has to wear a good armour to protect himself. Luckily, it almost never gets dirty, because enemies die before they even reach him.
