He rides the plains of Eriador, always accompanied by gruesome shriek, and yet he is not a Nazgûl. People say he sold his soul to the power of evil to acquire superhuman strength and fear resistance, but the wise know different. Maney was once an ordinary warrior, champion of his unit, but he felt so powerless. When he was seventeen years old and saw his dear brother and fellow die at the hands of remorseless barrow-wight, he has made his decision.

Maney started training really hard, spending every waken hour practicing his skills with a sword, endurance and courage. He sought challenges and was always there where people needed a savior, especially against undead servants of the worst evil. Soon, however, people started to fear him for his unnatural skill and introversion, caused by deep grief. They started calling him a Ghost rider, and he gratefully assumed this role. And so he rides and rides, knowing only in his heart who is on the side of good or evil.

I love dark outfits. Sometimes I miss the "evil" part of gaming in LOTRO (don't get me wrong, I don't torture young players in other MMOs ;)) and so I try to simulate this side in Middle-earth too. That's why my personal favorite in Yule Outfit Contest 2011 was Kemendin with his Herne the Hunter. Coincidentally, my today's outfit is also a dark-themed rider, inspired by Marvel's Ghost Rider series. It might resemble the Loki inspired outfit we created more than a year ago together with my fiancé, because the goat mask is very unique :), but the theme is different.

On Saturday night I spent a few hours leveling my champion from level 11 to 18, just to get Cleave. This skill looks so amazing on screenshots that I knew my ghost rider should be able to perform it. Then I spent an hour trying to retouch the mobs' names out of screenshots (you can see the very unprofessional result on the first and third screenshot - I just hope not at the first sight :)). However, I hope I have managed to capture the atmosphere I wanted for this outfit.

This mysterious traveler hails from Gondor, specifically Pelargir. He has traversed the borders of Gondor and Harad, and feeling the heat, found an armour to protect himself, but to keep cool in the harsh heat. With his favourite horse Jade they roam the lands of Middle-earth, helping those in need and punishing the allies of evil.

This outfit might be less original than the previous creation of Eodread, but I love it because of the chosen dye. I've never noticed how awesome and nomadic does the OD burglar set look in white. The little details such as dagger on gauntlets or little daggers hanging around the waist make it one of the most valuable sets for cosmetic purposes and each and every part of it can be nicely matched.

Brawler of Thorin's Hall

"Ye're a maggot, Rúnulf! Get th' lager here at once, or I'll murder ye! Don't be tellin' me I be drunk that be all I can take, ye don't be knowin' what be it to be drunk 'n I'll show ye to ye grave if ye don't get me th' ale! Get goin' ye filthy scum! Or I'll introduce ye to me buckos over thar 'n ye'll be dead!"

It seems we've just caught Khamrad in his typical mood. Drunk as a skunk, threatening everyone around (and mostly poor Rúnulf, owner and bartender at Thorin's Hall Inn, who haven't surrendered the effort to pour a little brains into his most dedicated guest). Well, not everyone can be a hero and it would be unfair to display only the honourable persons of Middle-earth - let's look at (not-so)normal folk.

Khamrad has never set his feet outside of the Blue Mountains. Everybody knows him as his reputation of local bully and drunkard precedes him. His brother is a wealthy merchant, too kind to let Khamrad starve and teach him a lesson, so he sponsors his countless mugs of ale. Last time, Khamrad mocked an honourable traveling merchant because he didn't like his clothes. However, the merchant surprised him and beat him like a gypsy toy in front of a crowd outside of the town gate.

Khamrad was humiliated and enraged and as always, he sought to drown his anger in alcohol. He started drinking in his favourite inn, but soon set off to find more, possibly free, booze. And he shouldn't have done that. For the first time ever, he left Thorin's Hall, managed to convince someone to give him a ride and found himself in the Shire. He even broke into one of the hobbit holes and drank a lot of brandy from a sinister keg the notable member of Inn League stored in his house.

When Khamrad woke up, the last thing he remembered was lying under the keg, letting drops of brandy drop into his mouth and snoring a little. What was his surprise when he found himself in a strange place he's never seen before! Horrible gigantic worms, turtles and unspeakable creatures were all he saw. Khamrad's eyes filled with tears: "What shall I do? 'tis gunna be me last day fer sure!" he mumbled to himself. Who knows if he ever gets home. Maybe he will have to start being nice to people around him - for people of Angmar are quite sensitive to rude and daring behaviour...

This outfit doesn't aim to be pretty, but rather role-play fitting. It started as an idea of building knightly outfit for a man, as I think the faceguard works really well in this context. However, I store many of my cosmetics on my dwarf model, and as I started picking the right pieces, I found myself building a dwarven outfit instead.

There are a lot of parts on this outfit that don't match at all - for instance, the blue area just under the waist, or the base colour of the leggings. But who needs a matching outfit when all he does is fighting and lying drunk on the floor? Ye be tellin' me! :)

A tale of acorns and nuts

When Accornia and her fellow pony Nuts set off for their journey, it seemed that despite his name, Nuts was actually the sane part of the duo. "You're totally nuts," he told to his young mistress (he could, because she had a rare gift of understanding the animals). "We can't go to Forochel! Not alone! I know I've been born there, but when your uncle brought me to Hobbiton, we had traveled with a lot of other hobbits and dwarves!"

Accornia stayed firm. "I am a guardian, I will protect you. You worry too much, Nuts!" she smiled. That almost drew Nuts totally nuts: "I'm not going anywhere! The monsters roaming all the way through Evendim and Forochel are dangerous, they would surely eat us in a bite!" But all his reasoning was useless. Accornia stood with her arms akimbo and uttered: "Ok, I'm going alone then!"

Of course, Nuts couldn't let her go. They were equally old, sixteen, but while a pony is already experienced and wise at that age, a hobbit is still just a kid. So they traveled together through Shire first, passed Oatbarton, Dwalling and dangers of Men Erain, until they finally entered Forochel. They hadn't met a single evil beast, except for one angry squirrel enraged by their presence. "What a relief," Nuts thought just before they met his family and Accornia's distant relatives. "We haven't been devoured after all!"

I don't think I have ever considered using crafted medium armour from the Lossoth before, because of the dull undyable navy parts. Exactly the same parts I now knew I gotta use to match the Steed of the Forochel! I think it's pretty difficult to build a matching outfit around, because its fur is deep black on the bottom and blueish-grey under the blanket. On top of that, the blanket itself is rust and Evendim blue... hardcore combination, for everyone besides the Lossoth themselves :)

This outfit is not aiming to be pretty, but rather promotes usability and tries to fit the environment. I'm happy I won the Forochel pony on a hobbit, because hobbit girls are the best models for fluffy Forochel cloaks, which make them look totally adorable. And when I was going through the screenshots I took and saw the topmost one, I immediately had the story of acorns and nuts in my mind :))

Instance: In the Presence of Saruman

Kemendin shared the story of this outfit creation: "This outfit was born out of a two-fold inspiration. The initial glimmerings came to me when Kemendin first entered the instance "In the Presence of Saruman" while being held captive in Isengard. Wandering around, I was struck by the elegance and majestic colour scheme of the tower, and I felt distinctly out of place in the outfit I was currently wearing. So I resolved to find a new outfit more fitting to the surroundings, to show Saruman that Kemendin is not a Lore-master to be taken lightly. And then, with the arrival of Update 5 and new armour to drool over, also came the Prized Isengard steed. Robe met horse, and with a loud bang and flash of light... okay, not quite. But you get the idea."

This is was also one of Kemendin's entries for LOTRO Fashion Week screenshot contest. I had his outfit scheduled a long time before that, but after he posted the mounted screenshot on forums, I immediately fell in love with it! Prized Isengard War-horse is very rarely seen and even more rarely with such amazingly matching outfit.

Recently he helped defending Fornost from the terror of Angmar, protecting it from repetition of destiny which has made this once great city a sorrow place. If only he had been there that time - maybe we would now be attending a ball among the decorated castle walls...

Last year, I got the most unusual outfit wish. Weldon asked for a gothic or vampiric outfit for his elf maiden Draculetta. He mentioned he knew it's not exactly LoTRO lore-compliant, but he is very much into gothic subculture and all his characters are named after famous female vampires from movies and TV series. I was thrilled by this request, because as you might have noticed, I enjoy working on outfits which are atypical, maybe even a little bizarre within Lord of the Rings world. Here are some basic requirements Weldon outlined for the outfit:

• red and black colour scheme,
• no raid pieces if possible,
• demonstration of vampiric nature.

He also sent me a picture of Draculetta's current outfit, which she used to switch with red set from Isengard pre-order.

It took me a lot of time to reply, as I just had one of my blogging breaks. However, after about a month of rude ignorance (although non-intentional) I sent him two designs:

Here I went for a little masculine style, leaning to the Underworld style of female vampires. If the pants and top could be leather, it would be just perfect. Hellish cloak added to the atmosphere.

The second design differentiated only in use the cloak, but it made a big difference. Here I took a very slight inspiration of True Blood's Jessica outfit in the Season 4 finale - here's just a little sneak peek:

Weldon was very thrilled about both designs and he found particularly "Jessica outfit" wonderful. I sent him a list of items used, but unfortunately we found out he out-leveled the Cloak of the Galadhrim (which is the only cloak with rich velvet design ingame). So we were left with the first design to work on.

And here comes the result!

I'm pretty "template persistent", but here I dared to change the font to add a bit of vampiric style to the outfit presentation. Pity I can't make just one particular post with black background :) Anyway, a long time has passed since Weldon made his wish and he approached getting Cloak of the Galadhrim with one of his alts, so he might be able to recreate that one too.

And one more teaser from me - I fell in love with True Blood's Jessica inspiration, so I will post another outfit of this style later this week. Hope you will like it, as well as Draculetta's one! :) Please let us know your opinion in comments!

Black captains are brave warriors of the Free People with many of supporting skills. They wear black armour because their troops attack mostly at night. Many of filthy goblins were slain beforehand they had seen who was their executioner. Black is their favourite colour! They wear black clothes in a battle as well as in a tavern. Amethad was kind enough to pose in the shade of Dunland's trees.

Guest inspiration: Statue of Elendil by Graegyst

Elendil (known as Elendil the Tall or Elendil the Fair) was the father of Isildur and Anárion, and the first High King of Gondor and Arnor and first King of all the Dúnedain. He was known as a great warrior and a wise king, and a heroic figure among the Dúnedain. Leading the remnant of The Faithful Númenóreans to Middle-earth, he established strong regimes there and created the great alliance that put an end to Sauron's power for over a thousand years. His bloodline and spirited leadership survived in the Dúnedain of the North and South of Middle-earth, that would in turn sire the brave and heroic men that would help bring a final end to Sauron in the War of the Ring.

One Wiki to Rule Them All on Elendil

Author of this outfit, known to readers of my blog as Kemendin, spoke of its creation: "I was questing in Evendim on my burglar, doing the quest line involving Aragorn and Gwindeth and the Silithar, and I got to the part where you have to cleanse one statue of Elendil and return the other restored statue to its pedestal. All of a sudden the thought hit me - why not try to recreate this outfit that the stone Elendil is wearing? So I jumped immediately onto my poor neglected minstrel, Graegyst (encouraging him to grow a very quick beard), and outfitted him in the closest things I could find to match the statue. It's certainly not exact - I took a creative liberty with the cloak, for instance - but I'm extremely pleased with the result."

I love this inspiration myself, it feels like Elendil came alive in Graegyst! Also, Kemendin found a nice Easter egg - the same statue actually appears in Ost Baranor in Chetwood as a representation of Aranarth, the first Chieftain of the Dúnedain. Turbine this way managed to successfully confuse those with some knowledge of Middle-earth history :) "Hence why "Elendil" is looking very confused in this screenshot next to the statue in Ost Baranor," Kemendin explained.

Maney has already seen many battles. Some call him Champion from the Lonely Mountain, because he has toughness, endurance and hard hit of a dwarf. He only smiles after hearing such remarks, because he is indeed a friend of dwarves and often visits Thorin's Hall for a few lagers with old friends. But however merry, he is never caught off guard and never lets go of his sharp blade and good old plated armour.

It's been quite a few weeks since I wanted to create an outfit for "The Borg Helm", a.k.a. Jeweller's Helm obtained during Treasure Hunt event sneak peek. First, I wanted to create an inspiration of the Borg from Star Trek, as this helm so much resembles their implants, but I've been unsuccessful so far. I wanted my first outfit in this year to be at least decent :), so no Borgs for today, I'm sorry. I experimented a bit anyway, because I've never tried mixing plated chest piece with cloth leggings so far - please let me know if you like the result in comments :)

Who watches the watchmen? There are many guards in Bree, but who knows what little secrets do they share and what kind of mischief do they plot. Acromir might be considered the villain, as he is a burglar, but instead of burgling he oversees the night town and takes care of Breelanders' safety. When you see a shadow moving between rooftops next time, maybe there's no need to be scared. But one can never know ;)

Acromir said about his outfit: "When making this costume, I tried to make it semi-realistic for a burglar. In actual night-time, there is never pure black. People who wear black clothing (the stereotypical ninja) show up really well, because there is always some light (stars, distant lights, etc) and so shadows are never that dark. Grey, however, shows up a lot at night-time and blends in with most building or natural materials. Most of this stuff is from lvl 65-70 questing in Dunland. I realized that some of the stuff looked cool, and started trying everything on before I picked a reward. I had to sacrifice some gear with better stats to get these, but it was definitely worth it."

Tomori Greybeard, a dwarven minstrel of the The Westfold Marshals (kinship on Riddermark server), has always admired the free spirit of mariners. They might be just greedy merchants with no sense of higher good for the Middle-earth, but they get to explore the rivers up to Belegaer (Great Sea) and generally enjoy a lot of adventures. Tomori decided to dress like a corsair himself. It's always good to have such a dangerously looking pirate on your side (as long as you can keep your pocketses safe)! :))

How long has it been since I had started to travel with these Rangers of the North, which a portion of my own blood has descended from? It has felt like an Age has passed since, yet the reality knows it's been a fleeting moment in history. My once near zealous pride in being a Barding has faded, at the actions of the Dunedain. I once searched to learn from their ancient lore out of curiosity, and now that knowledge has become ingrained as my own. They have honored me, by adopting me as one of their own. In return, I shall honor them by dressing in their manner and bearing their star proudly.

Ithon said about his outfit: Originally, this cosmetic before Update 5 was simply my lore-master's cosmetic he wore into battle. The rewards from Vol III, Book 5, Chapter 1 combined with reading the words there, I took as an inspiration. My old battle cosmetic seemed to blend rather well into making a custom Grey Company's uniform with a decidedly fitting lore-master look. The shoulders and the parts of the armour just under them, give the impression of the raven cloak's wings continuing on past the cloth. The Dunlending's jacket and boots dyed black replaced the Grey Company's cosmetic gear for providing a unique look while helping the impression of the wings for the back. The Grey Company's hood and gloves complete the outfit, giving the impression of the Grey Company's full cloak and wearing the Dunedain stars openly. All of this with the Weathered Raven summoned makes for a fitting Lore-master in my eyes.

...and I can do nothing but agree :)

Gentle disguise

It's been a long time since Brewbelly left her home in Tuckborough. That's the last time she remembers she could have some undisturbed sleep, dreaming about pleasant things only. After a long long journey towards ever darker places, trying to be courageous while her heart was trembling, she sighted the beauty of the Peaceful Glade. Immediately, it reminded her of her peaceful youth, and after a long time she took a nap under a waterfall, being surrounded only by immerse nature around her. What a lovely day!

Brewbelly, despite being one of two characters I play actively, has been probably the most neglected until now. I don't play much, so I usually do instances with my main hunter and Brewbelly just struggles to get to level cap and stays there after every major update. Today, when Fashion Maven was supposed to be around, I realized I neglected her more than my fashion dolls even in outfitting. So I finally made her an outfit expressing her personality - gentle lady hobbit, yet always up to any mischief without serious consequences :)

All That Jazz, Chicago musical

Imagine Chicago in the 1920s, smoke-filled bar with jazz band playing on stage, gentlemen dancing with their ladies and bunch of gangsters sorting out their business in the corner. This is what came to my mind when I first saw this hat ingame. I was using it on my hobbit minstrel, but I thought it will be easier to create outfit underlining the atmosphere on a man or elf. The times of squishy mages running around in dresses and robes are long gone. As we approach the root of the evil, enemies get more and more sturdy and they could smash unwary warrior in light armour into the ground easily. Elevyr knows that and refuses to give orcs and trolls the advantage - she dresses heavily, but still very appropriately for a rune-keeper. Try to pierce her dragon-scale hauberk and you will see yourself ;)

Burglars usually wear black - it's just part of their nature. Sometimes, they struggle with dilemma how to make it look both mysterious and noble at the same time, and to make the whole outfit also practical. Nik doesn't have any of these problems - his outfit is classy, well-fitting and very "burglary". I bet no decent hobbit lass or lad would overlook him riding the dark glowing steed :)
