Back once again...

Rate:

Hi guys!

I wonder if and when this line started to be cliché on my blog - but I'm back again! And once again I sincerely apologize for not bringing you a new outfit for almost two months. I will keep my work-busyness stuff to myself this time and instead, I will show off what I have been up to in those rare moments of leisure.

I tried out Guild Wars 2 while waiting for Riders of Rohan expansion and got totally hooked into it. I've spent practically every moment I had for myself ingame (which means up to 3-4 hours a week at max, sigh...). I must say it's an amazing game and a piece of art, but totally different from our beloved Lord of the Rings Online.

This is what makes me happy as well, because despite being very deeply dragged into another game, LOTRO hasn't lost its charm for me and I'm already looking forward into taking my dear Freyjuska into Rohan, trying out mounted combat and other stuff which has recently come.

Until then I will try to get up to speed with your e-mails and wonderful guest submissions, first of them being published today (and I totally love it!). Thank you for bearing with me :)

Ceremonial Moria armour in store - worth buying?

Rate:

Until August 30th, you have perfect chance to improve your wardrobe by some of the most appealing cosmetic items without effort put into group action. It is really easy to get Medallions of Moria nowadays, but if you're just a solo player or miss too many levels to be able to go to Moria, I really recommend checking out the store offer.

I'd like to give you another piece of advice too: sets of the Written Word/Poet's Heart, Shield-wall/Quiet Step and Whirlwind/Iron Arm share exactly the same looks with crafted Lothlórien sets:

  • Ceremonial Robe (Leggings, Shoulders, Gloves, Shoes) of the Written Word/Poet's Heart = Robe (Leggings, Shoulders, Gloves, Shoes) of Lothlórien
  • Ceremonial Jacket (Leggings, Shoulders, Gauntlets, Boots) of the Shield-wall/Quiet Step = Coat (Leggings, Shoulders, Gauntlets, Boots) of the Golden Wood
  • Ceremonial Breastplate (Leggings, Shoulders, Gauntlets, Boots) of the Whirlwind/Iron Arm = Hauberk (Leggings, Shoulders, Gauntlets, Boots) of the Galadhrim

It might still be worth buying these items - depends on your real money vs. ingame money/level ratio :) Crafting each of the abovementioned items costs around 600 silver + 1 week cooldown and they are usually not sold on auction hall nowadays. You have to do your own math if it's worth 295 Turbine Points.

However, the head pieces of these sets are exclusive to Moria armour/ceremonial store items - Lothlórien crafted head pieces look differently (and less attractive). So it's definitely worth buying:
  • Ceremonial Helm of the Shield-wall
  • Ceremonial Helm of the Brazen Call
  • Ceremonial Helm of the Whirlwind
  • ...and the other three ceremonial Moria helms - they are all beautiful and unique!

For inspiration, check out some of outfits published on my blog which feature Moria items being on sale in store:

Sir Kay, Knight of the Round Table
Heritage of Cardolan
Hard work pays off
Into the fire
Inspiration: Rían of Bëor and Simbelmynë
Guest: Keeper of the Forgotten Fortress by Thoargile
Revel among Arnorian ruins
Guest inspiration: Haldir by Thoargile

Equestrian Fashion Contest for August

Rate:

Kiralynn of the Windy Acres Ranch is once again organizing a contest to satisfy our hunger for beautiful mounted outfits :) In contrast to previous very successful Galloping Gala Fashion Contest, this month's one is not taking place ingame, so everyone from each server can freely participate. All you have to do is follow the contest's rules and send Kiralynn your equestrian outfits. Winner will not only gain prestige, but also a 100 Turbine Points code!

For inspiration, you might want to check out some of mount-matching outfits published on LOTRO Fashion. And I am myself very curious about the outfits you will submit in Windy Acres Ranch contest! :)

New blog about LOTRO cosmetics - volume IV

Rate:
I'm proud to present a new LOTRO outfitting blog, Plate Metal Jacket and its very talented owner, Argendauss. After two very successful outfit posts here on LOTRO Fashion, he's decided it's time to have his own blog - his collection of battle outfits is astonishing!

"The blog's focus is aimed at the niche of LOTRO cosmetics that I enjoy the most, which is battle ready-outfits. No dresses, unless they're made of chain-mail or something," Argendauss said. I'd like to add that most of the outfit are really different from what can be usually seen on established LOTRO outfitting blogs, as they are made from man's perspective and that assures great uniqueness. I admire this guy's eye for detail and perfect taste for combining pieces :) I hope you'll enjoy his blog as I do!

I'm back in summer mood :)

Rate:

Hi guys!

My three weeks off prolonged into twice as much - catching up with workload after my vacation (which I enjoyed to full extent - no internet access, no mobile signal :)) took quite some time, plus I enjoyed some lovely warm weather with some hiking and sunbathing. However, I'm more than happy to be back in business - I even found out there's new festival ongoing when I logged in!

So Freyjuska is now enjoying Farmer's Faire with her fellow hobbits and I'm starting to think of new outfits for you guys. I haven't even checked my mailbox yet, but I will soon prepare some lovely guest submissions to post (unfortunately some even from times before I left - shame on me!).

Looking forward to going through my fellow bloggers' posts and your comments!

See you in two weeks!

Rate:
I thought I'd be able to post some more outfit before my vacation, but I didn't manage it - I'm as disorganized as always :) I'm leaving for 2 weeks vacation tomorrow, so I'd like to ask you to bear with me and promise I'll bring you some pretty outfits after I return - you've sent me really amazing guest submissions which are sitting in my mailbox for now.

So, see you in July! :)

New blogs about LOTRO cosmetics - volume 3

Rate:

It's been a long time since I presented new LOTRO outfitting blogs (aside from tweeting a little here, a little there), which is shameful and I'd like to set this right! For instance, I realized I totally neglected launch of the Starry Mantle last November (I mean I didn't write about it - of course I've been totally hooked up on Starry from the beginning!). No more mistakes like this anymore! :))

Landroval Style has been up for a month and a half and already has a nice collection of good looking outfits. It presents blog owner's creations, as well as other Landroval players - I totally love the "Seen on the Streets" category, which is kind of Landroval fashion police. There are several other interesting series, such as Dress It Up challenges or Cloak of the Day - don't miss them!

I can't believe I missed Vogue of the Rings when it launched in last year's November (aye, that's the same month Starry Mantle launched - must have been very busy month for me :( ). It's run by Danica, whom you might remember by this outfit which ended up in TOP 9 in Yule Fashion Contest 2011 (under character's name Diamint). There's bountiful collection of outfits - please check them out and encourage the author to continue posting!

You might need Google Translate's help for this one, but Estel Fashion is certainly worth checking out. Blog started in December and is aimed at francophone community, but screenshots speak one united language anyway :)

An Unexpected Fashion Blog launched only last month and it already has a lot of inspirational posts. I particularly love a gypsy maiden, so wonderfully set within the scenery.

...and there are more! Many blogs have arisen from Newbie Blogger Initiative, which I was also part of as a mentor (only in the beginning of May though, work schedule came into my plans :( ). Some of these blogs only have a few posts at the moment, but watch them closely - there's inspiration in each and every post and who knows which of them will grow into established fashion blogs!

Moria Fashion (dwarven F2P outfits)

Lotro Cinna (which I love because of Hunger Games reference!)

Tip: I also updated my blogroll on the right side - check it out! I've separated outfitting blogs from other sites, so that it's easier to search among them.

Reveller's Gilded cosmetics - my preciousss!

Rate:

When I learned there were store exclusive versions of 5th Anniversary gift boxes cosmetics, I had to buy them. Right now. I missed the ones given to 4th year players, because I registered 2 weeks later than the eligibility date (you can imagine my disappointment when I found out). So now I had to make myself happy with the most beautiful LOTRO dress ever, and an account-wide steed! Yay!

Edits: After publishing this post, I've received numerous requests for previews on different races, genders and in different dyes. Unfortunately, dressing room preview of this items is broken at the moment. It took me a while but I've added all the previews to this post. Enjoy!

Note: Dyes on woman's preview are: red, white, turquoise, orange, black and pink (below). All other previews were taken in default dye (crimson).

Click the picture to enlarge.

Woman

Reveller's Gilded Party Dress

As you can see, the dress has really beautiful shiny textures in most of the dyes. I was surprised that in black, it becomes pretty dull compared to other dyed variations, but it's still very pretty.

Reveller's Gilded Tunic & Trousers

Unfortunately, the Tunic doesn't glitter the same way. Quite frankly, it's pretty boring, so I guess the dress will be much more used than the tunic.

Reveller's Gilded Cloak

And finally, the cloak - it's unusual appearance and dyability will surely make it frequently used cosmetic in the near future. It shares the matt textures of the tunic & trousers.

I also added preview in rose per request on the forums:

Man

Elf maiden

Elf sire

Hobbit lass

Hobbit lad

Dwarf

I will surely make outfits matching the mount in future, as well as outfits using Reveller's Gilded cosmetics. I just need a right inspiration for nice combination, not only putting all the pieces together and calling it an outfit :) However, even such straightforward combination will surely yield a lot of admiring looks to anyone wearing the cosmetics.

First Mounted Fashion Contest knows the winners!

Rate:

Disclaimer: LOTRO Fashion is celebrating Galloping Gala and through the whole event, we bring you news and special mounted outfits for the occasion! You can browse through LOTRO Fashion's mounted outfits here.

As I've informed recently, a part of Galloping Gala event was also the Mounted Fashion Contest. It took part yesterday on Landroval and Kiralynn of Windy Acres Ranch posted a report today! The participants were judged by the audience, so I hereby present the rightful winners!

1st place: Faraleif of Landroval

2nd place: Kaleigh of Landroval

3rd place: Irmohir of Landroval

I'd like to congratulate the winners, but also all participants of this exceptional event, because all of the outfits were distinguishable and well put together! I would also like to thank Kiralynn for organizing this event and his great effort during the event.

Let me invite you for a coffee :) LOTRO Fashion loyalty program!

Rate: I've just set up a new service for my blog - PunchTab loyalty program. I'd like to reward you, readers, for your activity on LOTRO Fashion. For now, you are able to get gift cards for Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, Groupon and Restaurant.com - all just for visiting, commenting, liking, recommending and tweeting about LOTRO Fashion!

All you need to do is click on red Rewards ribbon on the left and sign up with your Facebook account. You will start collecting points immediately, 100 points just for visiting. Starbucks 5$ gift card is worth 8500 points, so let's say that from time to time, I will invite you guys for a coffee ;)

It's a fairly new service, therefore untested, but it has pretty good reviews. Hence I hope it can be trusted and you guys will really get your gift cards. If it is a success, I will consider buying some Turbine Points codes and supply these as a reward. Time will show :)

Please let me know any feedback or questions. There is little info available, but I will try to find out how much I can from PunchTab's customer support.

So, let's comment, tweet, like and recommend! :)

Just a note: In case anybody would like to farm point with obvious spam (commenting many times isn't considered spam), I will opt him/her out of the loyalty program and delete the spams.

Galloping Gala: Mounts and outfits fans, rejoice!

Rate:

Screenshot courtesy the Windy Acres Ranch

This weekend will belong to sound of horse & pony hooves and exciting design! This LOTRO community event runs (literally) between May 3rd and May 16th. There will be tons of exciting events - unique races, mounted fashion contest, concerts. You can get in style and take part on a new mount, as all store exclusive mounts will be available from May 4th until May 6th.

For more information about the community event, as well as accompanying screenshot contest, visit official event page. For schedule of events and list of included servers, check the schedule.

I'm very excited about this event as I'm a big mounts fan (I don't count mine and the TP I've already spent on them :). I wanted to attend especially the Mounted Fashion Contest on Landroval this Saturday, but unfortunately I'm away at that time. I'm lucky that Kiralynn, the facilitator of this event, agreed to send me screenshots of the contest participants afterwards, so I hope I will be able to bring you a report as soon as possible! :)

Kiralynn is also an owner of Windy Acres Ranch - a blog which often sponsors races and shows on Landroval. Don't hesitate to check it out!

To all the contestants - best of luck and I'm looking forward to see you, at least on screenies!

Blogging tip 1: Screenshots make your blog interesting

Rate:
Disclaimer: In May, I will provide some tips for new blogs as part of Newbie Blogger Initiative. If you have recently started your blog and have any question, don't hesitate to ask!

New Blogger Initiative is directed at MMO blogs, so game screenshots will be a part of your blog for sure. I'd like to give some tips on how to use them to make your blog more attractive, along with examples of good & bad layout.

#1: Use them!
I've seen so many gaming blogs with almost no screenshots. I have to admit I almost never stay too long on them, even though the text might be interesting. Even if you're blogging about text MMO, include ASCII art! Pictures spice up the posts, keep the reader interested and in fact help the message you wanted to give the reader stand out.

Bad vs. good:

#2: Use common sense!
Use the pictures so that they help readers keep attention on the article - don't overload! This advice of course doesn't apply to posts where screenshots are the main focus.

You don't have to include a screenshot for one liner saying you will be afk from your blog for some time. You also shouldn't include too many pictures which will make the text within the post disappear. There should always be at least one paragraph (3 rows or more) between two pictures. Preview your posts before publishing and use common sense to judge if it looks good and eye catching.
Bad vs. good:

#3: Use high quality screenshots!

Try to squeeze the max out of your graphic card and tune ingame details to maximum your PC can handle when taking screenshots for your blog. My blog is heavily dependent on screenshots as it's about presenting LOTRO clothing in an attractive way. I litteraly see hundreds of views difference between posts with high quality screenshots and low quality ones.

I'm sometimes sad because of this, because I see a good outfit presented in a bad way (dark, undynamic screenshots) and it gets almost no hits. I'd bet my head the same outfit would be very popular, if presented appropriately.

Bad vs. good:

#4: Master taking the screenshots further!
Once you achieve all the above, try to master your skills when taking screenshots even further. Basically, if you enjoy it at least a bit, learn the art of ingame photography :) Some brief tips:

Background: anytime possible, try to take a screenshot against fitting background. It's not possible, of course, for specific situations such as boss fights etc., but especially for static pictures of characters, you should never take a picture against white wall. For really spectacular screenshots, some people might even want to use them as desktop wallpapers - link full-size version if you consider it appropriate.

Light: good lightning can do miracles. Use ingame sources of light to your benefit - make the main focus of your screenshot well lit. Some games (e.g. LOTRO) even offer built-in torch tools, which will lighten up your character and its small radius - use them!

Composition: always think of rule of thirds when taking a screenshot. There are many examples on the internet - rule of thirds is your best friend!

Angle: learn to rotate that ingame camera. Pictures from non-standard angles are much more interesting than standard front, back and side view.

Action: wanna show how awesome your new character is? Don't present him or her planking vertically. Do an emote, make the dude run, do a skill - whatever, just avoid being completely static.
Bad vs. good:

I hope you found at least some of this information useful - please let me know your feedback and ask questions! It's exactly the right time and place to ask :)

Newbie Blogger Initiative

Rate:

Have you been thinking of starting your own MMO blog? Perhaps about LoTRO outfitting, role-playing, PvP or anything else you can think of? Now it's the right time! Syp of Massively and BioBreak had a great idea to launch a support initiative for new MMO bloggers, helping them in the tough beginnings.

LoTRO Fashion is joining this initiative and I will post a few pieces of advice on MMO blogging this month. It will be mostly concerning my experience I've gained on how to design attractive posts, especially when pictures/screenshots are focus of the blog post. The blogging beginnings were tough for me and I see so many things I could have done better - I hope I will manage to save your time and nerves by sharing what I've learnt :)

Please, if you can think of any topic that would interest you as a newbie blogger, let me know!

I will also present new blogs related to LoTRO and outfitting if you let me know about them. You can do it via e-mail lotrofashion(at)gmail(dot)com or in comments - I will be most happy to spread the word :)

However, if you prefer to submit your outfits and not maintain your own blog, I will also be most happy to post your guest submissions. You can find out how to do it here.

For more information on Newbie Blogger Initiative, visit this forum. There are over 70 blogs participating, so a lot of good advice will be compiled there. Also, go through the newbie blogger instructions - if you follow them, a link to your blog will be published at the end of the month :)

There and back again... in one year :)

Rate:

I haven't posted anything to this blog in almost two months. I (again) had so much going on in my real life that I didn't even have time to think of LoTRO or outfitting. I was very sad, because I thought I'd lost most of the readers and there is no sense in getting back to posting now that I have a little more time - I thought nobody would read it anyway. To my biggest (and most pleasant) surprise I found out that during my absence, the blog has gained about 50 new followers on Twitter, ~15 followers via Google Friend Connect, there are hundreds of people browsing through the blog every day and my mailbox dedicated to the blog is totally full of guest submissions and outfit wishes.

For all of this (and more) - THANK YOU! I promise I will try to find as much time as possible for the blog and bring you a new outfit every now and then during the summer as well. Please, send in your beautiful guest submissions, as I'll be more than happy to publish them even when I don't have time or inspiration to create an outfit on my own.

Thanks to you, LoTROFashion has been around for a year now. Today is this blog's 1st birthday, so I made a little retrospective of the blog milestones which mean a lot to me. Please join me in going through them :) And also, I'd like to use this place to congratulate LoTRO itself to wonderful 5th anniversary!

If you'd like to access the particular post, click the screenshot.

April 2011

Exactly a year ago, I posted my first outfit published exclusively on this blog. It was a signature outfit of my main character, a hobbit hunter Freyjuska. She's still wearing the same outfit for most occasions, so you can still see her running around like that on Snowbourn :)
The cloak used in this outfit, Golodir's Mantle or Cloak from the Men of Bree, was also a signature cloak for the Hobbit Hare Squad, a tiny but fierce duo we formed with a very good friend of mine at that time. So this outfit has a big sentimental value for me as well :)

May 2011

I mentioned above that Freyjuska's outfit was the first one published exclusively on LoTRO Fashion. This is true, because the first one published in general was Middle-Earth explorer's attire, featured by Devonna on LoTRO Stylist. It was my first attempt to go public with my outfitting creations and I was happy for positive reactions. I can say this outfit was the right kick I needed to make my own blog about LoTRO outfits :)
Thanks Dev for publishing it back then!

Guest submissions have been irreplaceable part of LoTRO Fashion almost from the very beginning. The first one published was Dueq's captain outfit. I remember I was quite surprised he managed to match the spring festival cloak (which is not very easy cosmetic to use) with heavy armour very nicely. Since then, over one hundred guest submission have been published on the blog.

On the same day as first guest submission, I also posted the first wish-based outfit. It was striking noble lore-master's outfit for my beloved Loki. We worked together for many outfits since them, he always offered valuable "man's view" advice to me and we even put together one of my favourite outfits - a norse god Loki inspired outfit for his LM.
I'd like to take this place to thank him for all his support, and not only in blog-related stuff :)

In the first month of the blog existence, I also published the first inspiration-based post. I feel these have been the most popular posts on the blog, although it all started pretty innocently. I had a pretty bad computer back then I was looking at loading screens for long seconds or even minutes sometimes. I got intrigued by the lovely and interesting blue & purple huntress, which we only had chance too see back of. I tried to replicate her attire - it certainly wasn't perfect, but I felt it was gentle and lovely :)

July 2011

In July, me, Devonna, Hymne and Kiarane were invited to the Casual Stroll to Mordor's Cosmetics Rountable with Goldenstar and Merric. It was (and still is) a great honour for me to be part of something thousands of people listen to. It was a great fun talking to other outfitting fans as well :)
Thanks CSTM for inviting us, it was awesome experience!

August 2011

In August, I published the first story-based outfit. There haven't been to many since then - just two story series, but the main idea was to connect related outfits not only by design, but also by message they want to express. The Mysterious Gentleman was dedicated to the Professor, and the later continuation to his wife, whom he used to call his Lúthien.
Since then, there has been another story line concerning visitors from the East, which started with the Lady of Rhûn outfit.

September 2011

September brought us the Rise of Isengard expansion. This meant enormous new opportunities for creating outfits, as completely new cosmetics arrived which were more realistic than the pre-RoI ones. This is also when I created probably two most popular posts of all history of LoTRO Fashion - Assassin's Creed Altair and Templar knight inspired outfits. There were very different from all the outfits I've made before and I'm still proud of them, although these cosmetics are very frequently used nowadays.

October 2011

The new outstanding RoI cosmetics allowed me to create a Legolas inspired outfit based on Maeglaz' wish, which I was never confident enough to make before. This post is also one of the most popular on the blog, and it's the first post where I used a big opening action screenshot instead of just three static looks of the garb. I've been following this format since then and I feel it adds a lot of dynamics to LoTRO Fashion.

November 2011

In November, LoTROFashion crossed a 100 000 views milestone, which was huge satisfaction for me. I have to admit that although I love creating outfits just for the outfitting's sake, there's nothing as rewarding as a lot of blog visitors and comments (doesn't matter if they are positive or negative). Now LoTRO Fashion has had over 230 000 views, but the hundred thousandth view will always mean a huge deal to me. Thank you again for this nice feeling!

At about the same time I finally created a Twitter account. I found this a great way of communication with you guys ever since and today I'm so happy for over 120 followers on LoTRO Fashion's Twitter page!

December 2011

A day before St. Nicholaus' Day, I published the first in the series of video guides. This filled a huge gap I felt LoTRO Fashion had until then - tips & tricks for outfitting newbies. Since then there have been three other guides and I hope I will once create more, when I have more time. However, it's lovely to know that these videos have been viewed over 1500 times on YouTube!

In December, I also created loads of winter themed outfits. One of my favourite ones is Fleet-footed Goat matching outfit - Fleet Foot was the first big thing I ever won in the lotteries after they were enabled for EU players as well. I was very happy about it and I think it can be seen on the screenies as well - my little hobbit warden pretty much expressed my feelings perfectly :)

January 2012

Before Christmas, Hymne of Cosmetic Lotro had a great idea to join forces between three biggest LoTRO outfitting blogs and organize a winter-themed outfit contest. It was a great success and an amazing experience for not only the participants, but especially us - the bloggers. We had received over 150 amazing submissions - choosing the best ones was very difficult, but also incredibly interesting and fun process. In January we announced the winners and published the slideshow of contest entries - if you will ever look for a Yule outfit idea, it's the best source I can offer!

Thank you Hymne for this amazing idea, it's always been a joy to cooperate with you girls :) Huge thanks goes also to Turbine for sponsoring of this contest.

February 2011

In February, Turbine organized an amazing fashionable event inspired by the Fashion Week in real life :) Hymne, Devonna and me were invited to judge entries in Fashionista's Choice category and each of our blogs also received a coupon code for a free day matching our blog theme. It was a great honour and again, just as during the Yule Outfit Contest, we had a great fun going through all the beautiful submissions.

Thanks for this opportunity goes to Turbine and thanks for all the great submissions goes to you guys! :)

...and here I am, finishing this post summarizing the last year. I hope after this big break since March I will be posting regularly again from now on and I will be able to host more fun events with other cosmetic bloggers, post your readers' amazing submissions, fulfill your outfit wishes and share my outfitting passion with you. Thanks again for everything :)
